The role of flags of convenience in the fisheries sector and the rules of the European Union.
The use of flags of convenience is the practice of registering ships with flag states that are unable or unwilling to exercise criminal jurisdiction over them. Flags of convenience are often used to hide the ownership of vessels , and can serve several purposes: more flexible rules on taxation or labor or health and safety of not being subject to any control or inspection.
