Interaction: The problematic of the scales

Date of holding: 17/06/2013

Viewed: 4 times

The course analyses the most relevant aspects in which the atmosphere – ocean interaction plays a determinant role. The course deals with both local effects, mostly the effects on the Iberian Peninsula, and global effects. The course includes the study of the ocean’s variability or the coupling effect between the atmosphere and the ocean, mainly the coupling processes: wind tension, evaporation, precipitation and radiation. Moreover, the course analyses the interactions between different oceanic basins through the atmosphere, with special focus on the connection between the Tropical Pacific and the North Atlantic in events such as El Niño and la Niña. Finally, the course ends with the study of the retroaction mechanisms between the ocean and the atmosphere in the context of global change, and the waves and hurricanes regime variations.
