It explains the importance of obesity as a socio-economic and health care problem due the high number of associated co-morbidities and the reduction of survival, the benefits of bariatric surgery, the preoperative diet for weight loss prior to the intervention and the postoperative diet indicated after the bariatric surgery to achieve weight loss and preventing malnutrition.
